Keep Your Politics Out Of My Art!

This got nominated 3 times and this got nominated 0 times?

I haven't been so angry since this won 5 awards and this won 0.

  1. What the holy crap? I didn't bother reading the nominations. Everything I've heard about MF in Shame is that it's an incredible bit of acting. People make him sound like "what if Daniel Day Lewis didn't have a weird face."

Why don't I know more people who've decided to just ignore the academy? I hear stuff like this and don't regret my choice.

Great call on Hotel Rwanda, btw.

  2. Good for you! I wish I hadn't read the nominations. It's all politics and none of it makes sense. He definitely is "what if Daniel Day Lewis didn't have a weird face" in Shame! Totally got shafted. But, considering the list of nominations, maybe it's a compliment that they left him out of it.

Thanks! 2004 was definitely the year I lost my faith in the academy, and it has yet to win it back.

  3. Yeah, I kind of left off the whole Oscar thing several years ago myself, and for the very reasons you guys commented about. I would love for my buddy Michelle Williams to win, though.

  4. You are both smarter than I am. Or less masochistic. Michelle Williams is fantastic, though, I'd love for her to get a little credit for her awesomeness.

  5. I hear you. I am cheering for Michelle, Melissa and Gary. Oldman should have won something a long time ago he's had so many great roles.

  6. Melissa was another nice surprise--I'm glad she got a nod. If they're going to go crazy with the awards, at least they got that one right. And Oldman definitely deserves some respect (finally).

  7. Yeah the academy awards is a load of crap, just a bunch of stick up their butt people, pretending they are bigger than life but voting for the same old crap year after year and they are the same ones that whine when there is nothing new, pfft.

  8. I couldn't have said it better myself. The only thing I get to look forward to every year is being disappointed. So unfortunate!

  9. I was disappointed that Shame and Martha Marcy May Marlene were completely shafted. I preferred MMMM but both were definitely worthy of acting nominations. Elizabeth Olsen was phenomenal and of course Fassbender is just so so so good at everything he does.

  10. Damn, I haven't even seen MMMM. It's officially time for me to check that one out. Best actor and best actress? Fassbender has yet to disappoint me. I'm waiting for it, though.

  11. Exactly. And Drive only has one nomination? Christ, what an embarassment. Even freaking WE got nods and Drive and Shame were so overlooked. At least The Artist got the recognition it deserves.

  12. Really! Drive definitely should have got at least a little more attention, Refn deserves it. Bah humbug. I still actually haven't seen The Artist, though I should really get on that.
